FAQ – Taking an online Meazure Learning ProctorU test

Overview

Taking a proctored assessment with Questionmark and Meazure Learning is designed to be straightforward. This article walks you through everything you need to know, from booking your appointment to submitting your exam and answers the questions you’re most likely to have along the way.

Before you read on, there are two things that are essential to know:

⚠ Set up your device before exam day. Install the Guardian Browser and confirm your webcam, microphone and internet connection are working in advance. This is the single most important thing you can do to ensure your exam goes smoothly.
⚠ Set your local time zone before you schedule. Your appointment date and time are recorded against the time zone set in your Questionmark profile. If it is wrong, your appointment will be as well.

How do I get authorized to take my exam?

First, you must be authorised by the test publisher to take the exam. This typically happens when you purchase access to the exam through an e-commerce transaction. In some cases, the test publisher will provide an exam voucher that can be redeemed in place of a credit card purchase. More information on how to purchase an exam using Questionmark can be found in the linked support material.

How do I schedule my proctoring appointment?

Once you are authorised, you can schedule your proctoring appointment for a date and time that is convenient for you. It is important that you set your local time zone in the Questionmark portal before scheduling. Your appointment date and time will be set according to the time zone recorded in your account. Once you save your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email that includes further instructions.

What are the technical requirements for taking an exam?

Taking an exam is easy, but because exams are secure and proctored there are some technical requirements. Two things need to be set up before your exam:

  • Download the Guardian Browser — the specialized browser that works with the exam delivery system. There is a Windows client and a Mac client. Install it using the link below.

  • Real-time communication components — ensure the following are functional and enabled:
    • A working built-in or external webcam and microphone.
    • An internet connection of at least 2 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload.
    • A browser with the pop-up blocker disabled.

Can I take an exam on a tablet such as an iPad or Android tablet?

No. The following environments are not supported:

  • Google Chromebooks
  • Apple iPads / iPad minis
  • Android tablets
  • Microsoft tablets
  • Linux systems

Is it possible to extend the time by which I must take the exam?

Please contact your test publisher before scheduling your exam appointment to learn about their accommodations policy. If the test publisher grants you an extended-time accommodation, this must be arranged in advance of your exam. The test publisher will correspond with the proctor to facilitate it. This cannot be arranged on the day of your exam.

I’ve scheduled an appointment, but the date isn’t showing on the My Assessments page and the launch link isn’t available.

If you schedule an appointment for an immediate time slot, refresh the My Assessments page. This updates the appointment date and allows the system to offer you the appropriate follow-up actions.

Can I cancel an exam appointment?

Yes. You can cancel an exam appointment before the appointment starts, from the My Assessments page in the portal. You will not lose an attempt for a cancellation.

Can I reschedule an exam appointment?

Yes. You can reschedule before the appointment’s start date and time, and a rescheduled appointment does not count as an attempt. To reschedule, first cancel the existing appointment from the My Assessments page; once it is canceled, you can create a new appointment for the same exam.

How many attempts do I have?

Please contact your test publisher for their policy on attempts and retakes.

Where can I take an online proctored exam?

You can take an exam wherever it is convenient for you, but it will be proctored and must be kept secure. Ensure you are in a quiet, private location. Exams are not allowed in public places where others are within speaking distance, may walk into the room, may access your computer, or where you could be distracted. You must be alone in the room for the entire exam.

Our proctors will ask you to rotate your webcam before you begin. Your computer area must contain only items approved by your test publisher. Any whiteboards or bulletin boards must be cleared, erased or covered. If they are behind you, they are exempt from this rule. Any cell phones, tablets, or other communication or recording devices must be removed from the area.

Why aren’t there any time slots available for a proctoring appointment?

Available times are a function of demand and capacity, so a specific date and time cannot be guaranteed. With some advance planning, you should be able to find multiple available times on any given day. Common reasons you may not see any times are:

  • You’ve accidentally chosen a date in the past.
  • You’ve chosen a “blackout” date.
  • Your time zone is not set to your local time zone.

How does the proctor know it’s me taking the exam, and not someone else?

The name on your exam appointment must match the name on your photo identification. Before you begin, the proctor will check your valid, government-issued photo ID. The name on your ID must match the name in the personal profile under which your appointment is recorded. Valid forms of identification include:

  • A government-issued passport
  • A photo-card driving license
  • A military ID

Specific identification requirements are established by the test publisher and may vary.

On Exam Day

To ensure a smooth experience, make sure you have met the technical requirements described above before you begin. Then follow these steps:

  1. Log in and open My Assessments. At the time of your appointment, log into the Questionmark portal and browse to My Assessments, where your appointment appears.
  2. Launch your exam. A launch link is enabled 2 minutes before your appointment. Click it to open the proctoring system in a new window.
  3. Connect with the proctor. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect with your proctor, present the identification documents required by the test publisher, and use your webcam so your test-taking environment can be inspected.
  4. Agree to the candidate agreements. The test publisher requires you to agree to all candidate agreements before the proctor can release the exam.
  5. Begin the exam. The proctor unlocks the exam and monitors you through real-time audio and video. The proctor can pause or terminate your exam if the rules are not followed, and you may speak to the proctor at any time.
A secure testing environment means: you are alone in the room; your desk and work area are clear; you are connected to a power source; no phones or headphones; no dual monitors; you do not leave your seat; no talking; your webcam, speakers and microphone stay on for the whole test; and the proctor can see you for the entire test.

How do I get help if I encounter a technical problem during my exam?

You can ask the proctor for help at any time during your exam. If the proctor is unable to resolve the technical problem, you will be transferred to a technical support representative.

What do I do if my computer crashes or I lose connection during an exam?

Technical problems can occur. We will do our best to resolve them quickly and reduce the impact on your exam. If you encounter a computer malfunction or lose your internet connection, follow these guidelines:

  1. Leave your computer as it is and check your power supplies, network cables, and any other physical resources that may have caused the loss of connection.
  2. When the proctor detects the lost connection, they will automatically pause the exam to preserve its integrity.
  3. If you can re-establish the connection without shutting down your computer, you should be able to communicate with the proctor again and have them unlock your exam so you can resume.
  4. If you cannot re-establish the connection after 1 minute, the proctor is required to terminate the exam. In this case, an attempt will not be deducted from your subscription and you will need to schedule a new appointment. Do not try to reschedule the appointment associated with the terminated result.

Can I chat with the proctor by text if my spoken English isn’t strong?

Yes. You can use text chat to communicate with proctors throughout the exam.

What language does the proctor speak?

Exam proctors speak English only.

Can I take a break during the exam without losing time?

No. Breaks are not permitted during the exam unless the test organization has specifically included one as a requirement.
